Liverpool. January 1871
One Man. One Woman. One Choice?
Life hasn’t been easy for Nell. Orphaned as a child, her elder sister Maria is a substitute for the mother she barely remembers. All she wants now is a husband and family of her own.
Second mate Jack Riley loves his life at sea and dreams of one day captaining his own ship. Settling down to life in the back streets of Liverpool holds no appeal.
Until he bumps into his old flame, Nell.
She wants security and a husband who’ll come home each night. But the call of the sea is strong. Can Jack abandon his plans and give her the life she craves?
Nell is restless, with a yearning to travel. But in a world where women are expected to stay at home, her desire for independence has far-reaching consequences...
Based on a true story, The Windsor Street Family Saga is a story of love, loss and hope set in Victorian-era Liverpool and beyond.

Life hasn’t been easy for me. Orphaned at a young age, my elder sister, Maria, has always been the mother I never had. Now, all I want is a husband and the family I’ve always dreamed of.
When Jack Riley returns to Liverpool, it stirs something deep inside me. The second mate of a ship, he’s always been more at home on the sea than on dry land. Our past is tangled with bittersweet memories, but I can't deny the pull I feel towards him. He promises me the future I’ve longed for, but I know his heart belongs to the open ocean.
The life I want is one of stability, a husband who’ll be there each night. But the sea is a siren’s call, and Jack can’t ignore it. I’ll have to decide what kind of future I want — a life with him that might tear my heart apart, or one without him that may leave me longing forever.
But the choices I make won’t just shape my future with Jack. They’ll set in motion a series of events that will change the lives of those I love — and challenge everything I thought I knew about love, loyalty, and the price of independence.

Nell sat back on her heels, rubbing her hands in front of the range as the fire roared back to life.
"That should warm you up." Her nephew James smiled at her as he took a seat in the armchair to her left.
"I hope so." She sighed and pushed herself to her feet.
"What's the matter? You don't sound very happy."
"Oh, it's nothing. I just hate feeling trapped in the house. I'll be glad to see the back of winter this year."
"You and me both." He reached for the letter opener and sliced the top of an envelope he was carrying.
"What have you got there?"
His face lit up as he read the single page of handwritten text. "It's a letter from the shipping company. They want me to go for an interview next week."
"An interview, that's wonderful. I didn't even know you'd approached them." A grin crossed her face. "Will you go?"
"I'm not sure. I want to, but..." The smile slipped as his hazel eyes stared up at her. "You know what Mam and Dad are like. They'll be mad with me if I do."
Nell watched as he reread the letter. "Why did you apply for a job in the first place, then?"
"I don't know. I was angry at work a couple of weeks ago and thought it would be a good idea..."
"But now you don't?" Nell raised an eyebrow as she took the seat on the opposite side of the fire.
"How can I?" He rested his head on the back of the chair, disturbing his neatly combed ginger hair. "If it wasn't for Dad, I'd be off like a shot, but he'll be home in a couple of weeks, so it's not that easy."
"It's a shame they won't let you make up your own mind."
"Don't I know it." James grimaced. "To hear Dad going on, you'd think I was a freak for wanting to be a steward, but it's a well-paid job. Is it wrong to want to see the world?"
